Internship Opportunities at UCSCU
The UCSCU Internship Programme provides students with the opportunity to learn about the activities in the SACCO industry.
UCSCU may at times consider accepting Interns, depending on the student’s qualifications and the demands of the work programme of the Union. If the request is approved, an Agreement will be signed between the Union and the candidate and, when applicable, the university or educational institution concerned.
Interns tend to be students approaching the end of their programme or graduates between 19 and 32 years of age (average age is 26). Internship at UCSCU is on a voluntary basis.
Consequently, the Intern will not be entitled to any remuneration or allowance and will be responsible for any expenses incurred as a result of the Internship. Also, acceptance of an Intern carries no expectancy of employment at the end of the Internship period.
Interns are given assignments and responsibilities that commensurate with their experience and they are referred to a supervisor/tutor, who is responsible for mentoring and coaching. They can be given short assignments either designed within ongoing programmes or on an ad-hoc basis. Interns are not considered to be staff members but Terms of Reference, tasks, duration of assignment, and supervisors are clearly determined.
Since 2000, we have welcomed many interns coming from Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Ndejje University, Islamic University of Uganda, Makerere University Bussiness School, YMCA, Datamine and international interns from Canada under the CCA internship programme.
